Although Australia has been slowly stabilising their economy despite the pandemic, there are still a few rules people must abide by in terms of entertainment. It’s been over a year that clubs and venues around Australia that promotes artists and punters are on hiatus. Dance floors are empty and the streets are silent at night.
If you are wondering what’s happening next in Australia’s nightlife, New South Wale and Victoria imposed some restrictive measures to ensure everyone’s safety. A 66-page report about the current status of the states in terms of the entertainment industry and the vaccine race will disclose the new way of travelling, working, and dancing.
Three Key Levels of Restrictions from Public Health and Social Measures
Low PHSM – ( NSW 23 August 2020)
- No dancing
- No festivals
- Corporate events max capacity is 120/one person per 4sqm
Medium PHSM – ( NSW 1 July 2021)
- No dancing
- No festivals
- Corporate events max capacity of 120/one person per 4sqm
- No more than 20 at an outdoor setting
High PHSM – (as in VIC 23 August 2020)
- No dancing
- No festivals
- Corporate events max capacity of 120/one person per 4sqm
- No more than 20 at an outdoor setting
- No household visitors
- Curfew
- Stay-at-home restrictions (except essential purposes & permitted work)
In NSW, they require at least 70% to 80% of the residents to be vaccinated before re-opening entertainment platforms.
- NSW – 26% fully vaccinated (two shots)
- Australia – 20% fully vaccinated (two shots)
The initial dates that the government imposed for NSW being the central nightlife district of Australia:
- At 70% vaccination rates by the end of October
- At 80% vaccination rates by mid-November
Currently, most people are working on getting vaccinated to meet their targeted deadline of re-opening places for entertainment. When that happens, another 30-day period of strider protocols before going lenient or lower PHSM or Public Health and Social Measures.
- At 70% vaccination rates by end of November
- At 80% vaccination rates by mid-December
There is a good possibility of moving to low PHSM by the end of November or at most mid of December. Although the restrictions from last year did not meet the target and the return of live music venues are still on hold, probably before the year ends, Aussies will be given the freedom to dance the holiday away.
In the worse or if NSW won’t be able to reach their target as stated above, the glorious weeks of dancing will be postponed for another thirty days. Thus making the end of the year a series of house parties with no visitors, more likely!
- At 70% vaccination rates by end of December
- At 80% vaccination rates by mid-January 2022
Everybody is itching to go dancing! The music scene has been on the down-low yet musicians have been creating their best tunes. It has been too much for everybody for the past year and a half. Everyone deserves to let loose, dance and listen to some good live music.
