A lot of people have begun noticing this little ol' magazine of ours, some with enthusiastic optimism, and others with a sense of bewilderment, because the history of free magazines has traditionally been pretty pathetic when you look at the record.

we are screwedIn fact, I think a lot of the newsstand magazines are pretty pathetic too, which explains why so many people in Singapore prefer to buy the foreign editions rather than the local editions, which are merely just trying to cash in on the success of their franchise's brand name. And that's all they are... franchises.

Lost to them is the art of the magazine; the pouring out of new ideas, opinions, information and originality, to give you, the reader, something worthwhile for your scarce reading time. No, they are not bold enough to make you laugh, to make you feel or even to make you care. They are merely satisfied with replicating someone else's great idea, like parasites cloning a higher organism's DNA.

And it's so funny to hear the media buyers say, "Well, you're a new media here in Singapore, we'll have to see how well you do," then you see their ads in Maxim and Stuff, who bragged about their readership's economic status, BEFORE they even had a readership!

But I'm gonna let you in on a little secret; Think Magazine has been published for over a decade now in Prague and Singapore, eventually moving to an all on-line format in 2009, and even spawned a weekly TV show and a long distance calling card company at one point. But is this magazine just a franchise? Nope. It's the real deal, published and created by the same minds that founded this silly media loop.

Sure, we have enrolled some very talented local writers and artists as we've grown into a comfortable position, and you can rest assured that we will be expanding throughout the years ahead. But one thing you will never see, is us forgetting the most important aspect of magazine publishing; our readers.

To us, you are minds to be entertained, informed and enlightened. Not just demographic targets to be packaged and sold. This has always been the secret of Think's popularity; as an entertaining, informative and enlightening, full-colored, free magazine about music, art, fashion, food and modern urban culture, with an eye to covering interesting new trends in this fast-paced world around us.

We know, that like us, you are open-minded, independent, young (and young at heart) adults, looking for quality articles, inspiring ideas for living, profiles on the people who are creating society today, and above all, maintaining a deep respect for internationally established ethical norms for both journalism and advertising.

We've asked our contributors to write, shoot, and comment about their interests. The first Think was the result of these collaborations. These are but the first steps of a journey that we are glad that you have taken a chance to join us; you have raised the stakes.

Our interests are wide, the voices diverse, and our thinking nonlinear. Just because you have style, doesn't mean that you can't be serious. Just because you have fun, doesn't mean that you don't care. Life in the modern world is faster than ever. The change is inside, constantly measuring ourselves against new ideas and information, and outside, the customs and technology of people we've never seen before, both excites and asks us hard new questions.
