The landscape of the dating world has been changing in recent years. The way we meet potential partners is very different, particularly with the influx of online dating websites allowing us to meet new people easily. Some people even approach a company such as TheCircle to consult a psychic for help with finding love. Just as the way we meet people has changed, so too has the expectations of the ‘first date’. Although for many people, a drink in a bar or a meal in a nice restaurant is still a popular option, more and more people are opting for something a little different.

Opting for an ‘experience’ day can make for a memorable first date. There are several companies which provide experience days so you can go for a hot air balloon rides, cocktail making classes or even a bungee jump to name but a few! Of course, it depends on what the interests of your date are, but it can be a great way to get to know each other and try something new.

Another fun idea is to pretend to be tourists and explore a new city! If you and your date live in different places, you could perhaps agree to meet somewhere in the middle and explore the city together. That way you can take in the culture and the sights in a relaxed way and in a neutral environment. It’s a good way of finding things you have in common, for example if you both love art galleries or the theatre. You can also incorporate the classic lunch in a good restaurant into your date – it’s difficult to go wrong with a nice meal!

Perhaps you could opt for a half and half date. One person plans the first half of the date, maybe a museum or a movie trip and one person plans the second half, which could be the meal and tickets to a music concert. That way you get the best of both worlds.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it’s something interesting and enjoyable where you can both get to know each other. Obviously it depends how well you know each other to begin with on how elaborate you want your first date to be, but thinking outside the box is usually a winner!
